This presentation will describe how voluntary consensus standards help assure the quality and safety of dental products and how these industrial standards enhance the competitiveness of US products in the global marketplace. Participants will learn how to access and apply current national and international standards related to infection prevention and safety. Dr. Collins and Dr. Mills will review current ANSI/ADA and AAMI initiatives and describe how OSAP members can participate in standards development activities.

Speakers:

Fiona Collins, BDS, MBA, MA

Dr. Collins has given presentations throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, the UK, the Middle East, and the Pacific Rim, and has participated in webinars, podcasts, panels, and OSAP conferences. Her topics include infection control and prevention, OSHA, risk assessment, oral disease management, and other topics. Dr. Collins is a participant in Working Groups for Standards on infection control and the ADA representative to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Devices (AAMI).

Shannon Mills, DDS

Dr. Mills is an independent consultant, lecturer, and author and is internationally recognized as an expert in infection control and prevention. He has been a member of OSAP since 1991 and is a recipient of the OSAP James J. Crawford Award for Lifetime Achievement. He has served for many years as a volunteer member of the American National Standards Institute/American Dental Association Standards Committees for Dental Products (ADA SCDP) and Informatics (ADA SCDI) and is currently the institutional voting representative for OSAP on both committees.
