Package Description

Effective processing of reusable medical devices is heavily dependent on the equipment used to provide cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization. In this program, we will review standards guidance outlining how and how often each type of equipment should be tested. Additionally, we will discuss how human error can negatively impact processing even when equipment is working properly. Lastly, we will outline basic quality improvement steps that can help clinics of any size improve the quality of device processing.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. Review relevant performance qualification standards guidance from CDC, AAMI, and TJC
2. Discuss several common human errors relating to lack of knowledge and time pressures that negatively impact device processing
3. Review strategies to increase compliance with standards and mitigate errors that adversely effect patients
