Package Description

Healthcare-Associated infections (HAIs) occur in dental settings. However, there are no established guidelines for dental healthcare personnel to identify and monitor HAIs. There is limited research that investigates the incidence of dental HAIs after dental treatment. This presentation will provide tools for developing and implementing a process to identify and monitor HAIs. Capturing and analyzing HAIs data can result in a better Infection Prevention and Control Program and better patient outcomes. Surveillance based on standardized definitions and criteria to identify infections, subsequent analysis of data, and timely reporting to patients and staff can lead to improvements including better patient treatment and interventions, education and training, and appropriate antibiotic usage. This presentation will focus on the development of a dental HAI surveillance program. It will analyze data from clinics with HAI Surveillance programs. Over time, it is likely that trends in dental HAIs may occur. Prompt attention will be given to these HAIs so root causes can be identified. This program can be replicated and implemented in other dental settings.
