This session will allow the dental healthcare personnel (DHCP) to be current with CDC vaccination recommendations. The learner will get an overview of immunization schedules and requirements in the US and mandatory immunizations for every provider in a dental practice. The session will outline the progress of a COVID-19 vaccine and the challenges faced in creating a new vaccine for an emerging infectious disease. New and emerging viral infections and prevention of these infections through immunization will be discussed.

Speaker:

Sanjay Chand, MD

Dr. Chand has specialized in Medicine with a master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacology. He is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Infection Control at the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Dentistry. He is responsible for best practice guidelines at the dental school including infection control policies and their implementation in accordance with CDC guidelines. Dr. Chand is a popular speaker at many continuing education talks at national and international conferences. His areas of expertise include infection control and chronic disease management in the dental patient. He has been well-received at the Michigan Dental Association (MDA), Michigan Dental Hygienists Association (MDHA), and OSAP (Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention) Annual conference.
