The Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) is a federal advisory committee appointed to provide advice and guidance to Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding the practice of infection control and strategies for surveillance, prevention, and control of healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial resistance, and related events in United States healthcare settings. In this session, participants will learn about HICPAC’s scope of work and any relevant committee updates.

Michael Bell, MD

Dr. Bell is the Deputy Director of CDC’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, which leads national infection prevention and control (IPC) research, surveillance, analytics, environmental microbiology, antibiotic stewardship, guideline development, and training. He also serves as the executive secretary for the U.S. federal advisory committee for IPC practices, the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC).
