Antibiotic Prophylaxis: Clarifying Complexities in Clinical Care (On-Demand)

While national prescribing guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis have expanded over the past few decades, guidelines, and indications for prescribing for certain clinical scenarios remain unclear. This session will highlight clinical care scenarios and illustrate the need for a multidisciplinary approach to responsible antibiotic prescribing.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Identify gaps and clinical scenarios that remain unclear for prophylactic prescribing.
  2. Describe/clarify multidisciplinary communication to ensure adherence to guidance and responsible prophylactic antibiotic prescribing.
  3. Review resources and clinical decision-making frameworks that address the identified gaps for prophylactic prescribing.
  4. Discuss other indications for antibiotic prophylaxis, including the placement of dental implants, extraction of third molars, and medically compromised patients.
