Measuring Antibiotic Use in Dentistry - Meaningful Measures: The Impact of Antibiotic Stewardship Practices in Dentistry (On-Demand)

The CDC encourages prescribers to be aware of their prescribing practices in an effort to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use. The Collaboration to Harmonize Antimicrobial Registry Measures (CHARM) is a program that partners with prescribers in a variety of outpatient settings to provide timely, practice data on antibiotic prescribing practices. This session will explore how CHARM could be utilized in dental practices to track and improve antibiotic prescribing practices.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Explain the role of the Collaboration to Harmonize Antimicrobial Registry Measures (CHARM) in describing outpatient antibiotic use.
  2. Outline the measures and data that can be collected on dental antibiotic prescribing through the CHARM database.
  3. Summarize how CHARM can be used in dental practices to drive data driven prescribing changes that agree with the best practices nationally.
  4. Discuss opportunities and potential obstacles for dentistry for adopting a database that measure antibiotic stewardship practices and/or participate in CHARM.
