Sterilization and Disinfection of Patient Care Items (On-Demand)

Contaminated patient-care items (e.g., dental instruments, devices, and equipment) are fomites for disease spread unless they are correctly processed to achieve and maintain sterility until used again. This presentation will describe the standards and best practices for instrument processing for dental facilities. Important aspects of personal protective equipment and transporting of contaminated instruments and devices will be discussed. This presentation will also cover mechanical cleaning, packaging, sterilization, sterility assurance, and storage.

  2. Explain the acceptable methods for packaging and sterilizing instruments.
