Sterilization and Disinfection of Patient Care Items (On-Demand)

Contaminated dental instruments serve as fomites for disease spread unless they are correctly processed to achieve and maintain sterility until used again. This session will describe the standards and best practices for instrument processing for dental facilities. Important aspects of personal protective attire, and transporting of contaminated instruments, and devices will be discussed. This session will also cover the use of mechanical cleaning, packaging, sterilization, sterility assurance, and storage.

  1. Describe the steps involved in instrument processing 
  2. Explain the acceptable methods for packaging and sterilizing instruments 
  3. Identify the methods of mechanical, chemical, and biological monitoring for sterile processing
